panorama picture experiment

last saturday mrs d and i did a snow shoe hike from alpthal stei up to hochstuckli and then across to biberegg. the views were fantastic, the snow was good 🙂 prompted by mrs d, i tried my hand at taking a set of pictures to assemble as a panorama later.1 here’s the result (you can use the mouse to drag the picture around):

[photonav height=400 animate=1 mode=drag url=’’]

i stitched it together using hugin — i’m quite pleased with it 🙂 let’s see how it turns out as a 120cm wide print.

  1. luckily i had my D700 set to RAW+JPG — i had forgotten to set the correct white balance. using ufraw i could correct that at home, first time really that i made use of those RAW files…

last snowshoe tour of the season to take place!

the weather forecast for tomorrow is looking good! we are going to do the [last snowshoe tour of the season tomorrow!][gg] quite excited by it!

in case you are interested in joining: [contact fredi kälin of blue-dimension until 21:00 tonight!][fredi]

planned: the absolute last snowshoe tour this side of winter

our good friend and sometimes mountain guide [fredi kälin][] had [advertized a snowshoe tour to the gloggeentürmli][fredi-gg] in the [gotthard pass area][] — the precondition being that the pass itself got opened again and, of course, that we’ll have appropriate weather.

[fredi kälin]:
[gotthard pass area]:

well, the gotthard pass [was opened thursday a week ago][nzz-gotthard], now let’s see whether the weather plays along…

we are just back from five fantastic days in [engadin][]! all of last week we went on a snowshoe hike each day — enjoying fantastic scenery, lots and lots of sunshine, and excellent food. the whole week was organized by the [dav summit club][] as part of their _genuss plus[^1]_ program, meaning we got to stay in [s-chanf][] in a very nice hotel with hot shower ensuite (!) and excellent 4-course dinner meals every night!

[dav summit club]:

[^1]: which translates as, roughly, “enjoyment plus”…roughly…

the engadin is one of the nicest areas of switzerland. i especially (given my vertigo) appreciated the rounded mountain tops without dramatic chasms! the language spoken there is [romantsch][], an ancient language with place names that could have come straight out of the _[lord of the rings][]_.

[lord of the rings]:

in case you are interested, [we’ve taken a couple of pictures for you to enjoy :-)][pixs]

also, here’s the list of [googleearth][] tracks for each day:
